YUBA STATE PARK

Great news
Northern Pike are biting again fishermen are caughting and releasing 10 to 20 small northern pike also two small mouth bass have been caught

Good news about Northern Pike
This week DWR started netting Yuba Reservoir. They have been setting nets close to the shoreline in about 3 to 8 feet of water trying to capture Northern Pike as they move in to spawn. The first fish that we pulled in was a 21.5 pound female Northern Pike. A fish of that size is difficult to handle! The fish was released back to the reservoir.

It is likely that Northern Pike will be in shallow water cruising the shoreline looking for a place to spawn for the next month or so. Angler's wishing to fish for Northern Pike at this time of the year should target the shore line and fish in water 3 to 10 feet deep. Northern Pike seem to be keying in on shore line that have an abundance of vegetation, primarily Tamarisk.
The water is starting to drop, but the North beach is still covered. We are waiting for a dozer to push some sand so we could have campers close to the water.
"We have had reports of Northern Pike and Walleye being caught. Most are being caught about 8 feet of water.
We have had a few fishing boats come out and fish. We are hoping that the fishing will pick up this year due to high water last year and high water this year.
