INSIGHTS FROM THE HEIGHTS - ESCALANTE VALLEY THROUGH 170 MILLION YEARS

Escalante Petrified Forest State Park

5 Sep 2009

Join geologist Jens Munthe for a ramble through local geologic and cultural history. Hike the Petrified Forest Trail (moderate one-mile hike) to look at rocks laid down between 170 and 25 million years ago. Explore the human history of the Escalante Valley - how we adapted to the land and it adapted to us - as Jens outlines the lifeways of the Anasazi, Fremont, Southern Paiute, Mormon pioneers, and today's diverse inhabitants.  Meet at the Visitor Center at 9 a.m.
