Experience the History of Camp Floyd
Take a step into the past and experience the history of the Utah War and Camp Floyd through media and artifacts. The story of the soldiers stationed at Camp Floyd and the citizens of Utah is briefly presented through a ten-minute film, historic photographs, media presentations, and original artifacts. Learn about one of the most important events and places affecting the early years of the Civil War.

Daily Activities

Scout Patch Program
Scouts of all ages and genders are invited to participate in Camp Floyd / Stagecoach Inn State Park and Museums Scout Patch Program. Scouts may earn the patch anytime while visiting the park with their family, friends or scout group.

Junior Pony Express Program
Camp Floyd/Stagecoach Inn State Park and Museum offers a Junior Pony Express program at the park. While the program is aimed at children six to 12, everyone is welcome. Please check with a park ranger upon your arrival at the park.

Educational Camps

Johnston's Army Adventure Camp
Johnston's Army Adventure Camp is designed for Boy Scouts and offers an authentic and unique hands-on adventure! Scouts travel back in time to 1858 - 1861 and enter the world of a soldier with Johnston's Army at Camp Floyd in the Utah Territory. New recruits are processed, mustered into the army and issued uniforms. As a new enlisted private, scouts will shoulder their musket, and march off to a new adventure! Leaving modern possessions behind, the call of bugles and officers' commands will replace the daily routine of 21st century life. The camp curriculum is based on the history of Johnston's Army at Camp Floyd, Utah Territory, and is designed to complete the requirements for the American Heritage Merit Badge and the National Historic Trails Award. The camp size is limited to 30 scouts and leaders. Camp fees are $15 per boy / $12 per adult, which includes all camp material and breakfast. This two-day program includes a stay over night with sleeping accommodations in recreated military tents. Scouts will need to provide their own sleeping gear. Camp Floyd History Camp for Kids
Camp Floyd History Camps for kids are a fun-filled educational experience about how soldiers lived at Camp Floyd in 1861, and how the Utah War served pre-Civil War objectives. Campers will meet costumed interpreters, play 19th Century games, drill, march and set up a soldier's camp, fire an 1860's period firearm, make and take home soldier craft activities. Other activities include conducting a full-scale military exercise; and observing muskets and a cannon fired. Participants will receive a history camp tee shirt, Union or Confederate kepi, replica rifle, canteen, haversack, harmonica and more. Campers will return home each day with furlough papers. The park may be able to provide carpooling information with others in your area. These programs are for both boys and girls, 8-11 years of age. Each camp is limited to 24 participants and will run from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. each day. Reservations and $75 camp fee are required. More Information on the Camp Floyd History Camp for Kids

History Camp Application

Ladies of Camp Floyd Day Camp
Take a step back in time to learn about the life and times of women at Camp Floyd. The Ladies of Camp Floyd Day Camp is designed to teach participants ages eight - 11 some of the everyday activities faced by most women of the 19th century. Participants will wear a period dress, meet costumed interpreters, play 19th Century games, learn etiquette of the period, construct a rag doll, fire a musket, learn a period dance, and more. The camp is designed to complete the requirements for the Girl Scouts Folk Arts badge. This program is also appropriate for an LDS girls Activity Day event. Each camp is limited to 24 participants (including adults) and will run from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on February 21, 2009. Reservations and $15 camp fee per participant are required. School Programs

School Field Trips
Camp Floyd / Stagecoach Inn State Park and Museums is a destination of choice for teachers and educational tour operators from across the state. Our school programs include interactive, hands-on experiences for students as they become engaged in the activities of a soldier at Camp Floyd in 1861.

Students hear a first-hand account of life in Johnston's Army by a staff member in period military uniform, view musket fire, and experience the life of a soldier by marching, drilling, making candles and adobe bricks; race for the Pony Express, experience class in a 19th century schoolhouse and view the Stagecoach Inn and Camp Floyd Commissary.

Annual Events

Valentine's Dance
Take a step back in time to the 19th century with a social gathering at Camp Floyd State Park. Held in the historic Fairfield Schoolhouse, participants will dance, relax and have fun evening with other couples. This is a fun, unique way of celebrating Valentine's with your sweetheart.

The event is held during the week leading up to Valentine's Day. Couples are encouraged to arrive early and take a free tour of the museums and gift shop before the dancing starts at 7 p.m. Punch and cookies will also be provided during the dance. Pre-registration and a $20 per couple fee are required. Early registration is recommended. The event will be limited to 15 couples. Period attire is encouraged, but not required.

Geocache Treasure Hunt
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunt using a global positioning satellite (GPS) unit. Camp Floyd State Park is hosting a geocache treasure hunt in locating various sites within in the park of various historical interests. The event is held during the last couple of weeks of March. Visitors who complete the treasure hunt will be awarded with a special prize, while supplies last. Participants are encouraged to bring their own GPS units. However, a GPS unit with instructions will be available if needed. Park staff will be on hand to assist with the GPS coordinates. Participants will be given the coordinates to the first cache and each subsequent cache will provide the next coordinates. The geocache treasure hunt is included with paid admission of $2 per person, or $6 per family. Food concession will be available to purchase at the event.

Camp Floyd State Park in conjunction with the Utah Territorial Civilian Commission and Utah Civil War Association are hosting a Civil War Encampment every Memorial Day Weekend at Camp Floyd State Park. The event will allow visitors to experience camp life and participate in several activities performed by soldiers of Johnston's Army. Events include reenactments, encampments, storytelling, stagecoach rides, firearm and cannon demonstrations, marches, drills, 1861 period games, and photos in period uniform. The events and activities will be conducted between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Monday. All activities are free of charge unless otherwise indicated. Standard museum entrance fees of $2 per person or $6 per family still apply. Food concession will be available to purchase at the event.

Ghosts of Camp Floyd
Is Camp Floyd haunted? The public is invited to participate in a paranormal investigation of Camp Floyd on the last October Saturday before Halloween. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own tape recorders, film, digital and infrared cameras where park staff will assist participants in the use of their equipment in finding paranormal orbs, mists and sounds. A brief presentation will be conducted to familiarize visitors with ghost hunting techniques before the investigation starts. Park staff has conducted two investigations of paranormal activity at Camp Floyd and will also present their findings at that time. They gathered evidence using sound recordings, digital and film cameras. Visitors will have the opportunity of hearing recordings, see photographs and view other paranormal evidence gathered at this historic site. All participants will be invited to present their findings at the conclusion of the investigation. Visitors are encouraged to view the museums at Camp Floyd prior to the event and the admission fees for the event are $2 per person or $6 per family.

Gift Shop Christmas
On the first full week of December, the Camp Floyd State Park gift shop will be offering a 15% discount on all purchases. There are bonnets, kepis, historic games and cap guns for children (or children at heart). We have stamp and coin sets for collectors, and over forty book titles to choose from on topics ranging from cooking, to ghost towns, to the Civil War. There is something for everyone!

New Events

Apprasial Show
If you've ever wondered what that antique of yours is worth, here's your chance to find out! The historic Fairfield Schoolhouse will have appraisers from the Utah Antique Dealer's Association ready to help you evaluate the treasures hidden in your home. Appraisers specializing in old photographs, books, fine art, furniture, silver, glassware, and other antiques will be present. Participants are encouraged to bring one or two small items to be appraised. The appraisal ticket is only $5 and ALL proceeds of the event will go directly to funding Camp Floyd's educational programs.
