Jordanelle State Park

About the Park

The Hailstone Recreation Area is the premier development of Jordanelle State Park, and is designed to accommodate active recreational pursuits. As visitors enter Hailstone, they are greeted by a staffed visitor center featuring informative and educational displays, which interpret the history of the Jordanelle area.

Visitor Center exhibits relate the fascinating story of the mining and agricultural days of yesteryear, and detail the development of Jordanelle Reservoir and the Central Utah Project. Evening campfire programs are conducted in the outdoor amphitheater just north of the visitor center.

On the eastern shore of Jordanelle Reservoir lies the Rock Cliff Nature Center. Nestled in the tall cottonwoods of the Upper Provo River, Rock Cliff offers visitors the opportunity to experience nature on a very intimate level. Elevated boardwalks and groomed interpretive trails guide visitors across wetlands and rivers to the Nature Center where educational and interpretive exhibits add to the visitor's knowledge and appreciation of this fragile environment.

Evening campfire programs are provided by Nature Center staff and guest speakers. Birdwatchers, photographers, and other nature enthusiasts come from around the nation to view the over 200 different forms of bird and mammal life, which call Rock Cliff home.

On any given day, visitors to this one-of-a-kind state park facility may see majestic golden eagles, redtail hawks, hummingbirds, mule deer, elk, or moose along the Upper Provo River within Rock Cliff. In the evenings, campers go to sleep listening to the sounds of rushing water, playful raccoons, or the hooting of a great horned owl.
